Explore the HathiTrust

Imagine what you could find if research libraries across the world all scanned their unique books and shared them with each other. That is just what is happening with the HathiTrust, a partnership of major research institutions and libraries working to ensure that the cultural record is preserved and accessible long into the future. Over 130 organizations have joined the partnership and are hard at work creating one of the greatest digital libraries in history. Recently the Harold B. Lee Library joined in. That means that the faculty, staff and students at BYU now have access to research materials from institutions such as Harvard, Yale, Notre Dame, Mount Holyoak and the New York Public Library. There are also materials from large consortiums and state systems such as the University of California, the University of Texas System, and the Big Ten Academic Alliance.

The BYU Library brings its own unique contribution to the system drawing on the items in our collections. By joining the HathiTrust we are boosting the visibility of our resources to researchers around the country.

If you have a BYU login–BYU faculty, staff, students, and dependents do–or if you are using a digital device inside the physical library building you can access the HathiTrust collection through the library website at lib.byu.edu. Simply enter “HathiTrust” and it will be listed as the first item under Research Tools.
